Meurens Natural is a family-owned Belgian company, created from a restructuring operation in 1994. We process cereals and dried fruits into organic and natural ingredients for the food processing sector.

Meurens Natural has been a pioneer in the organic sector for more than 30 years with its innovative Sipal® brand. We have developed a unique know-how that is 100% in line with the organic philosophy.

We have become the European specialists in cereal hydrolysis and have been at the forefront of innovation due to the originality of our production process and the variety of our processed raw materials.

History

Meurens Natural is a Belgian company, combining family tradition and industrial know-how in food processing that has been developed for over 100 years.

1935

Joseph Meurens started a company in Herve, specialising in processing the region’s fruit.

1989

With a view to diversification, the first tests in processing organic cereals into syrups were conducted with promising results.

1994

Meurens Natural chose to completely restructure operations and devote itself solely to organic cereals by creating the Sipal® brand.

2004

To keep up with the growth in the organic sector, the company undertook a huge investment programme at its historic site in Herve.

2010

Meurens Natural put their know-how to use in the natural sector with the launch of the Natu® range.

2012

Meurens Natural obtained FSSC 22000 certification (Food Safety System Certification).

2017

A second production site was launched in January 2017.

Social and environmental responsibilities

It has always been Meurens Natural’s desire to contribute to developing healthier and more sustainable food, by giving preference to the following objectives:

  • Using more natural production processes to limit their carbon footprint on the environment.
  • An ecological approach that has enabled energy saving in the consumption of gas, water and electricity.
    • the installation of photovoltaic panels;
    • the installation of a wastewater treatment plant:
      • recovery of biogas to fuel our boilers;
      • reuse of treated process water for our utilities;
      • reduction in our emissions, which have become cleaner.
  • Utilizing short food supply chains to attain as many raw materials as possible.
  • Developing the business in the region to maintain its know-how and to create long-term employment opportunities.
